In architectural applications, coating PTFE fabrics with other fluoropolymers brings a high degree of variety in shape and function while making them impermeable to fluids, weldable, and supple enough for a retractable roof.
Another design option is polyester fabric coated with fluoropolymers. It’s often used in architectural applications because polyester fabric is less expensive than woven PTFE. Since it is less resistant to high temperatures, it’s essential to use fluoropolymers for the coating which can be sintered at a comparatively low temperature.
Fluoropolymer-coated aramid fabric is primarily used in industrial applications, e.g. for conveyor belts, due to its high resistance to impact and abrasion damage. Coating with fluoropolymers reduces wear even further and provides enhanced sliding properties and improved chemical and temperature resistance.
