Case sealing is required in a variety of markets: food and beverage, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, electronics, retail, manufacturing and distribution centers to name a few.

  • Quick manual adjustment sets up these rugged units to reliably and accurately seal runs of same-size cartons. When the run is complete, manually adjust the machine for a new run.

  • These rugged case sealers automatically adjust to reliably and accurately seal different-size cartons from the same production line or different lines set up to feed one sealing line.

  • Case sealers with this feature automatically fold flaps, eliminating the need for an operator to be constantly present. They quickly and easily adjust to a wide range of case heights and widths.

Right Tapes. Right System. Right Partner.

Using the wrong case sealing solutions can cost more than you think. Are you experiencing these common – and costly – end-of-line issues?

  • Material Waste: Disposing of tape (and money) before the roll is depleted

Equipment Downtime: Shutdowns due to frequent changeovers or unplanned maintenance or repairs

Injuries and Ergonomics: Safety issues due to repetitive motion and the sharp knife edge on a hand dispenser

Missed Application: Missing or popped tape, or tape applied in the wrong spot

Manual Rework: Re-taping boxes the sealer missed, or too many operators on the line

Equipment Upkeep Costs: Exceeding your parts budget or performing unplanned maintenance

Case Sealer FAQs

  • A 3M-Matic™ Adjustable Case Sealer is manually adjusted to seal a long run of cartons that are the same height and width. A 3M-Matic™ Random Case Sealer adjusts itself to the height and width of each box as it arrives.
  • Top and bottom belt 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers (denoted by the number 7 in the model number) are often the best drive system configuration and are highly recommended for most carton-sealing applications. The four-belt system securely drives the carton through the case sealer without skewing or tipping it and tape is securely applied down the center seam. For instance, with a tall but not very long box the top and bottom belts hold the carton so it doesn’t tip as it's taped, keeping your operations running smoothly.
  • Side belt 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers (denoted by the number 8 in the model number) can be used for boxes of all sizes but are especially useful for taping narrow-width boxes. Make certain the side belts are spring-loaded to allow a little give when box widths vary slightly, such as with overstuffed cartons.
  • Bottom belt drive 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers (denoted by the number 2 in the model number) only have the two drive belts at the bottom, requiring a little more weight in the box for stable conveyance through the case sealer. Because there are only two belts, bottom belt machines cost less than others and can be a great place to start improving your productivity.
  • Sometimes there are box sizes that are outside the typical operating range of a case sealer – they may be too short or too large. 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers can be customized to your unique box requirements. In some instances this may be a simple extension of the existing columns; in other situations we will engineer a custom sealer from the ground up using standard 3M-Matic™ Case Sealer components.
  • The short answer is that it depends on how you're packaging your product today. 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers can tape boxes for shipment and replace hand taping. Shifting to a flap-folding machine removes the need for an operator to fold the top flaps and present the box to the case sealer. A case sealer can be used to pre-form cartons, which can reduce your costs and increase productivity. A 3M Packaging Specialist can best recommend a solution after visiting your site and discussing your needs.
  • Scotch® Box Sealing Tape is our strong recommendation. 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers and Scotch® Box Sealing Tape are engineered to work together as a system, providing you the best equipment, the best taping head and the best carton-sealing tape. You get great adhesion, along with reliable and consistent case sealer performance.
  • 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers have a great reputation in the market for being rugged and durable. We've been selling 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers for 45 years, and while not all those units are currently in operation, we do have customers who are using equipment that's over 20 years old. Obviously operating conditions and maintenance impact longevity, and every customer’s factory is different. Nevertheless, we are with you through the long haul, and we stake our reputation on our reliability. A 3M-Matic™ Case Sealer is a long-term investment.
  • Each operating manual details available parts and recommended maintenance procedures. Most 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers are basic machines, and there are a few wear parts that need periodic replacement depending on usage, including drive belts and taping head blades to cut the tape. Participating in the 3M Systems Agreement Program by purchasing Scotch® Box Sealing Tape makes these parts available to you at no cost. Otherwise, there are a variety of ways to purchase 3M replacement parts.
  • 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers have parts that may wear over time, such as blades, belts, springs and rollers. You can maintain optimal performance with replacement parts made specifically for your model. 3M replacement parts are engineered for rugged duty with steel construction and epoxy-coated surfaces. You can expect in-stock parts to be promptly delivered to you, whether you’re doing preventive maintenance or rebuilding a 3M-Matic™ Case Sealer after years of service.
