3M is communicating with the Hawaii Department of Health and the US Geological Survey as the agencies monitor the developing situation on the Big Island of Hawaii. To date, 3M has donated nearly 100,000 N95 particulate respirators to the local Red Cross to help residents and emergency personnel combat the ashfall taking place on Hawaii's Big Island.
N95 masks are not effective for protection against sulfur dioxide and other gases, and thus will not sufficiently protect people against volcanic gasses. It is important to follow the guidance of local authorities to avoid exposure to the gases and ash.
3M is working as quickly as possible to supply its channel distributors and philanthropic partners throughout Hawaii with various personal safety products.
